Gender identity issues and Gender Identity Disorder (GID) among children, adolescents and adults increasingly present to clinicians’ practices. The symposium aims at providing clinicians with the tools and skills to diagnose and treat such clients. A panel of experts will provide an overview of the history on the mental health care of GID, explain tools for therapeutic interventions and address the unique challenges of GID associated with autism spectrum disorders.
This Symposium is Designed to Help You

Develop an understanding of the history and evolution of the diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

Discuss the diagnostic issues related to Gender Identity Disorder in children, adolescents and adults.

Summarize the various approaches used in working with children and adolescents with GID and their parents, including current controversies.

Analyze the current research that informs the diagnosis and treatment of children with GID.
-
Develop techniques for treatment for transgendered adults.
-
Gain knowledge of possible overlaps between Autism Spectrum disorders and GID and the clinical challenges associated with such co-morbidity.

This advanced level symposium is eligible for 6.0 CEs.
- JSSA is an approved NBCC provider of continuing education activities. Provider #6457.
- This activity is being co-sponsored by the Maryland Psychological Association and JSSA. The Maryland Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists.
- JSSA is approved by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners as a sponsor of Category 1 Continuing Education. The Virginia and D.C. Boards of Social Work usually recognize JSSA’s Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners provider status. Social workers should contact their state boards to
verify approval. - CE certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of the symposium.
